Strategic Resource Placement (SRP) Simulator
Mission Critical: Building a Wi-Fi independent ecosystem for a 24,000 sq ft exhibit at the HDC General Council 2025.
Event
HDC General Council 2025 (24,000 sq ft exhibit)
Deployment
Multi-kiosk Unity simulation on a dedicated offline LAN
The Challenge: Capturing Attention in a Massive Exhibit
Distinct zones across the 24,000 sq ft floor were competing for attention. Strategic Resource Placement (SRP) needed to convert passersby into engaged participants while running flawlessly in the chaos of a live event.
Zero Downtime
Venue Wi-Fi couldn’t be trusted. The system had to be bulletproof and fully operational without internet.
High Throughput
Attendees needed to move from registration into gameplay quickly to avoid line bottlenecks.
Hands-Off Operations
Booth staff required a “set it and forget it” experience that didn’t pull attention away from conversations.
The Solution: A Local-First Ecosystem
1. The “No-Wi-Fi” Architecture
We engineered a closed-loop LAN so iPads, the master database, and Unity SIM kiosks communicated without touching the venue’s Wi-Fi. The result: instant data transfer and zero lag, even if the building internet went down.
2. Frictionless Onboarding
Player registration moved to roaming iPads. Staff captured names and photos while others were mid-session, and data synced instantly to any open kiosk for the next player to take over.
3. The Unity Simulation
The city sim balanced depth with speed. Custom joystick controls delivered an arcade feel, while each player saw their own name and photo integrated as deployable resources inside the city.
Engineering Trust: Why It Worked
- Dynamic resource loading: Assets streamed into each session based on player choices, keeping the experience fresh without slowing throughput.
- Automated reset loops: Each session reset itself back to attract mode instantly—no staff intervention or manual restarts required.
- Future-proof codebase: The Unity architecture was built for modularity, ready for VR or WebGL redeployment for future campaigns.
